Three reasons why fear has no place in your life

Fear can many times stop us from following God wholeheartedly in our lives. Fear of failing, fear of people, fear of what others might think or do. Sometimes it could even be fear of loosing things that are dear to us or letting go of things we love.

We really don’t need to live in fear anymore after what Jesus’s has done on the cross. If you study the Word of God you will find many encouraging reasons why we have the right to freedom from fear:

1: Because I am His child and He is my Father.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” (Rom 8:15)

There is no person as bold as the child in the presence of his father. Every child can get scared sometimes, but when he is together with his  father he knows that no danger can touch him. He is with his superhero who will take care of all dangers for him.

We need to learn to be bold like children in the presence of their parents. We need to have the same understanding that Jesus is able to fight any battle for us, and the fight is not ours.

2: Because God’s love lives in us, and through His love we are delivered from fear.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18)

How can love save us from fear? Well, some of us who lack love has fear in some specific areas. For example as mentioned above; we can have fear of loosing things that are dear to us. The bible tells us very specifically that we should be willing to give. We should be willing to give to both friends and enemies, without expecting something in return. We should be willing to walk an extra mile with someone, without expecting a pay for it.

Now, when we lack love for our friends (and enemies) we all of a sudden become very stingy with what we own to that person. Slowly by slowly fear starts to sneak in, and we start to measure everything we do to people, in order to be able to measure what we get in return. We also get very nervous if we find that we have given more than what we have got in return. It will eventually develop into a fear of loosing things and we will stop functioning as loving, generous Christians.

This is a dangerous trap that we should stay away from. If we find ourselves going in this direction it is better to be bold and take a loving step in faith. Jesus told the rich man in Mark 10:21

“One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”

Jesus needed this man to take a bold step in faith, in order to break something in his life. But the man got sad and went away, afraid of loosing all his possessions, and nobody knows what happened to him after that.

3: When we have faith, there is no room for fear.

“But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:40)

Jesus had already spoken the words: “Let us cross over to the other side.” But the storm, the waves and the water occupied the eyes and the minds of the disciples so that they could not put their trust in the Words of Jesus. Instead they put their trust in the storm which spoke “I will consume you”, and they believed in the words of fear and doubt.

If they would only have listened to the Words of Jesus they would have had no fear at that moment. They would have simply believed the words; “we are going to the other side” no matter how the surroundings looked like, because they were spoken by the ruler of heaven and earth, the one who holds the whole earth by His word.

I believe it is time we start to study the Word of God to find out what God really says in our situation, in our lives and about who we are. If you want to believe what the world says you are going to be very miserable and full of fear. But the good news is that you don’t need to believe that, because it is not the full truth. The truth is in the Words He speaks, and you find them in the bible.

So dust of your bible today, and enter a new week of new possibilities.
